Nanko Waterfront Property Prices Rise 14% in Osaka
Osaka Bay's Nanko district sees strong property demand as ferry expansion and airport links reduce commute times. Prices up 14% year-on-year to 428,000 yen/sqm.
How we reported this

Property prices in Osaka's Nanko waterfront district rose 14 percent year-on-year to an average 428,000 yen per square metre by June 2026.
The increase follows completion of the second phase of the Nanko ferry terminal expansion last March and the start of direct high-speed links to Kansai Airport that cut travel time to 28 minutes. Local agents report that buyers from central Osaka wards now account for 38 percent of enquiries, up from 19 percent in 2024, as commuting times shorten and office rents in the bay area remain 30 percent below those in Umeda.
Local anchors driving demand
Two projects anchor the current wave. The Osaka Port Authority's Nanko Logistics Park, opened in April 2025 on Chikko 3-chome, added 42,000 square metres of warehouse space now leased to three shipping firms. At the same time, the Suminoe Ward Office launched its Nanko Green Corridor program, planting 1.2 kilometres of waterfront promenade between the existing Nanko Park and the new ferry pier. These works sit within a 1.8-kilometre stretch of reclaimed land that also houses the Osaka Aquarium Kaiyukan and the Nanko Wholesale Market, both of which recorded visitor numbers above pre-pandemic levels in fiscal 2025.
Residents on Nanko-nishi 2-chome cite the new 24-hour convenience store opened inside the ferry terminal and the extension of the municipal bus route 26 that now runs every eight minutes during peak hours. Two private kindergartens in the same block reported waiting lists of 47 children for the April 2026 intake, the longest in five years.
Price evidence and buyer profile
Osaka City land registry data for the first half of 2026 shows 67 condominium resales in Nanko at a median 46.2 million yen, compared with 41 transactions at 39.8 million yen in the same period of 2025. Detached houses along the reclaimed shoreline averaged 62 million yen, up 11 million yen from 2023 levels. Brokers at three local agencies say foreign buyers, mainly from Singapore and Hong Kong, purchased eight units above 70 million yen since January, citing proximity to the airport and lower typhoon risk than central low-lying wards.
Buyers considering entry should review listings through the Suminoe Ward Office's public property portal, which updates every Friday, and schedule site visits before the next ferry timetable change scheduled for October. Agents recommend confirming flood-zone maps issued by the Osaka Prefectural Government last month, as insurance premiums differ by 18 percent between Nanko-nishi and inland blocks.
